Trust [ Rivaille X Reader ]

It was the 57th expedition. The squad's goal was to bring Eren to the safety of the walls without shifting into a titan. For that to possibly happen, you had to keep him away from the titans and keep him calm for the rest of the trip to Wall Rose.

Erd, Petra and the others were safely hopping through the branches with Eren, while you and Rivaille had to fall back behind in case of any titan attacks. You didn't like to be behind fearing the titans would catch up, but on the other hand, you liked it, because you were alone with Rivaille. You had feelings for him and you can't deny that when you're with him, you actually feel.. a bit safe.

Hopping calmly to the next branch, and landing your feet safelyon it, you felt a tight grip on your hand. You turned your head.

It was Rivaille.

He motioned you to look behind him, and as you did do, you saw two deviant-type titans running their way towards your destination. You froze with fear, knowing that these titans were a lot bigger than you expected, somewhat like a 20-meter class or above.

Still frozen with your own fear, Rivaille pulled you to a higher branch, fearing the titans would reach you, "Erd, take Eren and the others and get to the wall!" he shouted as Erd, nodded at him. "You're not an exception Cadet [Name], now go!"
You shook your head, "No Corporal! I'm going to stay here!" you said.

"Cadet [Name], get to Eren and the others, and that's an order!" he demanded.

"I'm sorry sir, but I cannot do that." you stood your ground, "These titans are bigger and faster than usual. You can't handle them on your own."

You heard a quick 'tch' from him, "As you wish." he hissed under his breath and began to move towards the titans.

You grinned knowing you against your superior. It wa true that he couldn't handle the titans on his own. If he were to go alone, that would be suicide, at least, that's what you believed and at the same time feared. You didn't want to leave him for two reasons.

One, You knew that even when he was humanity's greatest soldier, he still was a normal person. He had weaknesses, he was not immortal.

Two, You loved him. Ever since he saved you from a titan when you were still young, you have developed feelings for him. 'It may be unrequited,' you thought, 'but he was worth it.' If he ever was to go down, you wanted to go down with him.

As he swung, you followed him, suddenly slipping. Fortunately you were able to grab onto a branch before you could fall, not a squeek left your mouth, since you knew that even just the slightest sound of danger would distract him from his concentration. You knew him well, well enough that he'd take a risk just for his comrades.

He incredibly spun behind the titan's neck and with a quick, SLICE, the titan fell making a large noise with vapor in the air.

Unaware of the danger, Rivaille was rifting on the air when suddenly the second titan appeared behind him. He turned his head, eyes wide with fear.
This was the moment you were most afraid of.. the moment you were going to lose, HIM.

Blood-shot eyes stared at the titan, he showed no sense of giving up. Quickly he shot the 3DMG's wires into the branch just right below yours. The other wire on another tree keeping his balance, and if it were not there he would lose it and fall into the titan's dark abyss.

He grinned, thinking he had already won, but to his terror, the titan was trying to reach him, not wanting to fail, it kept on, and it felt like anytime soon he was going to reach him. You felt the same fear you had earlier and hopped to the branch where Rivaille was hanging from. Your tears were streaming down your cheeks, panicked you couldn't clear your mind and was not the tactician you were supposed to be.

You looked at him, he looked at you. His face was as still emotionless but eyes a bit wider, a clear sight that his hear twas beating fast. At a scene like this, anybody could break down and crawl back to it's shell, but not Rivaille. He kept a stern look until the end. You hated it, but at the same time loved it.

"[Name].. go on without me." he finally spoke, "You're in charge of the squad, make sure you get Eren back safely." his face was serious. You knew he was having a hard time accepting this fate. He already did. But YOU didn't.

Clearing up your mind, and in a few seconds you've already created a plan. It was a rather tentative plan, but it had to do. "No." you said.

"Cadent, this is the second time you have disobeyed your Corporal, leave, now!" he yelled. You didn't answer.

Your plan was to take a hold of Rivaille's hand and fling yourself toward the titan and, if possible, slice the nape of it's neck. But for that to happen, he had to let go of the wire that was balancing him and reach for your hand. His survival on the wire was a hundred percent. But your own was a 50-50 chance. And you were willing to take that risk.

"Go [Name]! We don't have much time!" he kept yelling.
"No, Rivaille." you said calmly.. determined about your plan.
"[Name].. please.. I need you to live.." he was looking down now. He didn't want you to see his tear stained face.
"Listen, all you have to do, is let go of the wire, and reach for my hand.. okay?"
he again looked up, "wha-- no! I'm too heavy-- you can't--" you cut him off.
"I can.." you forced a smile..
"But.."
"Rivaille, in a do or die scene, you get only one chance to accept or decline the statement, 'TRUST ME.' "

He was silent for a moment, but he let go of the wire and reached for your hand. You grabbed it, swung him to the safety of the branch, and flung yourself to the titan.

With all your strength you tried to swing to the titan's neck, but you failed. It grabbed you, you were ready for death's call, you closed your eyes. But suddenly when you open your eyes, you see yourself falling into the ground, and with a quick snatch, you were on Rivaille's arms.

He swung to the highest branch he could reach, and set you there. Both of you were exhausted, physically, and mentally.

"w-wow." you said under your breath. you looked at Rivaille, he was looking down, his ravin-like hair, covered his eyes. "h-hey, Corporal--" you were cut off by a pair of arms around your neck. He pulled you into a hug.

"C-Corporal--"
"If 'TRUST', meant that I would lose you, then I'd rather not trust at all." he muffled, burrying his face into your [h/c] hair.
You smiled, and hugged him back. Your hand holding his charcoal hair, his hair felt good.

"Is that so?"
